Think Father’s Day could be a good day to gift some low-tox products to hubby?
I am not convinced that gifting natural skincare products for Father’s Day is the best strategy if your husband or dad has never used them before (you may need a longer term strategy – I have some pointers here) BUT since it’s all about dad this week, I thought I would share the products that my husband has converted to and continues to use:
ROSEHIPPLUS ROSEHIP OIL
This was the one of the first products I introduced to my husband and it has been a skin saviour for him. Reality is that as we age our skin needs more hydration, wrinkles can appear especially when the skin is dry, we may develop sun spots or even have scarring.
My husband is out in the elements a lot, running and cycling, and then he jumps into chlorine pools a couple of times a week. The skin can really suffer from these activities if you don’t take care. Another reality is most men don’t think about skincare like women! So, I introduced this 100% pure rosehip oil and within a month a could see a marked difference in his skin. Best time to use is when the skin is warm and damp after a shower. Warning though – don’t go straight to bed or put on a shirt straight after applying…the oil needs time to soak into the skin or you may end up with a few orange stained garments!

NATURA SIBERICA NS MEN SKINCARE
This NS Mens range by Natura Siberica is new to Australia and currently only available from their website. Working for the company that distribute it, I was lucky enough to bring some home for hubby to try. Well the packaging is pretty cool and the moment he tried it he hasn’t stopped using it!
The “Wolf Power” Super Toning Face Cream and “Eagle Look” Eye Contour Lifting Cream are used daily and he also likes the “Bear Hug” Awakening Face Gel and “Fury of the Tiger” Energy Shampoo forBody and Hair (love a two in one for men) – this seems to be the only shampoo used now with his current short hairstyle.
Natura Siberica who make this men’s range is a European brand that sources it’s ingredients from wild harvested farms in Siberia. The farm supports the local community and the plants and herbs they grow and use in their products are ones traditionally used by Siberian tribes to protect the skin in harsh environments. These are low-tox products that have a huge following overseas and definitely worth a try!

CROP DETOXIFYING CHARCOAL FACIAL SCRUB
Charcoal has become a beauty buzz word but don’t think hubby would even realise this!! I grabbed this scrub from the supermarket. Really reasonably priced and he is using it! An exfoliator/scrub should be used at least a couple of times a week but don’t let hubby over use it. This scrub is a light grey (not deep black like charcoal), it has an inoffensive smell (good for guys) and a fine grain for exfoliation which I personally like over the larger, grittier bits – seem to be made from walnut shells. Also lots of other great ingredients and none of the nasty ones (except one I wish they wouldn’t use phenoxyethanol) – but a lot better than other products our men could be using. Think I paid around $10 from Woolworths.

EARTHS PURITIES NERO FOR HIM DEODRANT
This is a recent win for me. I have been buying lots of aluminium-free natural deodorants for my husband and son to try and haven’t had a lot of luck. Recently when my husband ran out of the usual Rexona and I didn’t buy more, instead I simple reintroduced some options I had around the house – this one has managed to stick! He just commented this weekend that he is using this one regularly so looks like I may have winner!
This brand is in a glass bottle, Australian owned and made, and although you can smell the essential oils in it they are not overpowering for guys. They call it a smokey, woody citrus fragrance. Looking over their website, I love their story and how they tried many many formulations before getting the perfect mx. They also have deodorants for women and a deodorant paste (which has become a very popular natural alternative to traditional roll-on or sprays) so think I might need to delve into their other products for the family!

I must give a mention to some great Australian men’s skincare brands I hope to get the boys in the family to try soon:
And for men with beards – The Bearded Chap
