Buying natural skincare products from big chain stores like Big W is now an option thanks to these great natural beauty brands.
Big chain stores and supermarkets across Australia like Big W have traditionally sold us only the well-known mainstream brands offering cheap skincare and body products with very questionable ingredients. (referred to below as “the others”)
Thanks to consumer demand we now have more options on the shelves – you just need to know what to look for. I was super surprised to see so many great natural skincare brands at Big W recently – they almost outnumbered “the others’!
Big W usually means affordable so the natural skincare ranges they stock are all reasonably priced, and if you catch them on sale, you really can make the switch to natural skincare on any budget.
Next time you are whizzing around Big W, look out for the natural beauty brands below. I share some of my favourites which are worth trying as you start to rid your home of toxic chemicals.
Burts Bees
An American brand that was one of the first to appear in chain stores, department stores and pharmacies across Australia, Burts Bee products offer some easy swaps to replace some daily use skincare products.
Australians were first introduced to the Burts Bee’s classics featuring beeswax and their great lip balms, but their offerings have expanded a lot over the last couple of years in Australia. The range now includes a wide variety of skincare and makeup, as well as baby skincare products.
Favourites in our house include the face wipes, lip balms for all the family in some great natural flavours (I have spotted a new watermelon flavour recently) and their coconut foot cream does wonder on my dry feet!
essano
The well known essano range from New Zealand offers lots of great skincare products including some for men, and a new Collagen Boost skincare range which is stocked at Big W. They claim to have the strongest free-from product promises in the world, guaranteeing what’s not in their products – love!
My husband and I are fans of the essano frangipani and paw paw pump moisturiser and we often buy their body wash too. The pink clay mask is good for teenage skin and since I am a fan of rosehip oil, I have tried a lot of the essano rosehip skincare range. I couldn’t spot the men’s range at Big W which is a shame but it may depend on the store location.
Glow Lab
Another New Zealand brand, Glow Lab, ticks so many boxes. Made for women, by women, their formulations are sourced from nature and blended with scientifically-proven ingredients to create natural products that work – and of course, no added nasties.
The Glow Lab skincare range is dermatologically-tested and pH balanced too, so it’s suitable for all skin types
Big W sell their Age Renew starter packs and Treat Yourself Mini Packs which are a great way to try out new products. I just purchased the Age Renew SPF15 Moisturiser for both hubby and I to try!
I really like their Coconut and Spiced Fig hand wash (refill bottle also available). All the Glow Lab body care and hair care can also be found at Woolworths.

Goodness
Goodness is clean beauty and vegan brand containing unique plant-based essential oils and minerals, with powerful skin healing and nourishing properties. Natural ingredients used include as rosehip oil, organic chia seed oil, aloe vera, avocado oil, and coconut oil.
Although I haven’t yet had the chance to use many of the Goodness products there is a lot to like about this natural skincare range and it’s affordable.
Popular with people who have sensitive skin, the products look great too so would appeal to the teenage girls in the house. One of these skincare kits would be a perfect stocking-filler at Christmas!
Thursday Plantation
The Australian Thursday Plantation brand I have included in my list of skincare products for teenage skin. Their featured ingredient, tea tree oil, is a great anti-bacterial multi-purpose product for the home. Big W also stocks all their skincare products for acne-prone skin including the Acne Control kit for $29.99 – a great place to start when introducing skincare to your tweens and teens.
By Nature
By Nature is a brand I recently discovered at Big W. My first purchase which I am currently testing is the Firming Eye Cream with hyaluronic acid and caffeine which is very reasonably priced at only $9.99!
By Nature is another New Zealand brand and although not all the range is stocked at Big W it is definitely one of the more affordable natural skincare options on the shelves. It promises paraben and harsh chemical-free skincare, and using some less popular natural ingredients like tumeric and rose water.
Sukin
Big W have a whole section dedicated to the Australian natural and vegan brand Sukin. My local Big W had the Signature skincare collection, as well as products from the Purely Ageless, Oil Balancing, Sensitive and Blemish control ranges.
I was also excited to see SPF 30 sunscreen which I haven’t seen in many stores yet! They also have some great skincare packs. We have tried many of their products in our house including body washes and creams, and skincare for the teens.
G&M Australian Creams
This range of creams I decided deserved a mention even though I don’t know a lot about the brand and haven’t tried their products. However, when I looked over their website I discovered they are ACO Certified and an Australian company exporting and promoting Australian products overseas.
The natural active ingredients used in these creams include Lanolin Oil, Macadamia Oil, Avocado Oil, Emu Oil, Goats Milk, Kakadu Plum and Eucalyptus Oil – some quite unique and very Australian!
No fancy packaging or big marketing budgets for this brand, which means consumers benefit. They offer big tubs of moisturising creams without nasty ingredients at super cheap prices – a great option if you are on a tight budget or have a large family.
Other natural brands at Big W
Big W also stock Thank You body products, Natural Instinct shampoo and conditioners, Jack & Jill natural toothpaste for kids, EcoStore for babies, the Nude by Nature make-up range and Ep Zen magnesium products which are other great natural skincare, body and make-up products.
Note too that Woolworths is owned by the same company as Big W so some of these brands natural products can be found at the supermarket too!
REMINDER! Be aware the marketing hype on the shelves in these big stores. Know the natural brands or check the labels. The words natural, eco, environment, green and even organic don’t always mean clean low-tox beauty!
Do you look out for these natural skincare ranges? Do you buy your skincare at Big W?
