The Andalou Age-Defying Perfecting Beauty Balm is one of my favourite beauty products I use every day.
I haven’t posted many reviews focussed on just one product yet but after realising I have hardly mentioned my absolutely all-time favourite makeup/skincare product on my blog I realised it deserved a review of its own.
I have been using this Age Defying Beauty Balm for at least 5 years (possibly more) and it’s the one product that I really do feel good wearing – so that’s saying something! We all have those few products we just decide works for us and this is one of mine. I love the smell, the texture, the ingredients AND how it makes me feel when I walk out the door with sometimes this as the only skin coverage for the day.
Andalou Naturals is an American company founded by Stacey Kelly Egide. It has been around for a lot longer than most of the all-natural Australian brands. The US are just ahead of Australia (as are Europe) when it comes to natural skin care products that have been researched and developed into large effective ranges.
I love that this brand is about pushing the boundaries of beauty, science and the empowerment of women. Stacey’s mission was to influence the industry to do better and I am sure there are many brands who look to Andalou Naturals as an example of best practise.
Andalou means “path of light” which reflects the company’s mission to foster good things in the world!
All Andalou Natural products are 98% nature-derived, Non-GMO Project Verified, vegetarian (with a large vegan offering) gluten free and cruelty free! It covers all that we want in brands we use on our skin.
I was so excited after buying it online for years to see it appear in Priceline chemist a few years ago – not all of the range (and not some of my favourite products) but great to have the range more widely available in Australia.
I can’t remember how I discovered this product but I had heard about BB creams and wanted to try, knew that I should be wearing an SPF every day and I like to have just a light coverage on my face to even out my skin tone even if I am just heading out for a walk or for coffee with a friend. I don’t wear a lot of make-up every day but this was a great alternative to foundation. I was especially impressed with the Fruit Stem Cell research and ingredients used and I liked that this BB cream was developed for mature skin.
What’s in the Age-Defying Perfecting Beauty Balm?
Fruit Stem Cell Science® is Andalou’s signature innovation. It is a revolutionary, patented liposomal technology, which promotes and protects the vitality and longevity of skin stem cells, resulting in enhanced skin health and visible results.
Andalou Naturals Age-Defying Perfecting Beauty Balm harnesses the power of their Fruit Stem Cell Science® as well as Resveratrol (extracted from rich dark grapes) and Coenzyme Q10 to help promote a more youthful and radiant complexion by preventing the appearance of ageing skin. It also features potent key ingredients to fight the signs of ageing, and restore a dehydrated complexion. The added Goji Glycopeptides, extracted from antioxidant-rich Goji Berries assists in the promotion of a tighter-looking complexion.
Along with all this natural fruit goodness is SPF30 sun protection with Zinc Oxide 20.0%.

What is a beauty balm?
Thought I would quickly include an explanation on beauty balms or BB Creams as they are often known for those who don’t use them. They were developed in Germany by a dermatologist who wanted a single cream that would protect skin and provide coverage after laser treatments. They soon became very popular across Asia, then hitting the shores of the US about 10 years ago with Australia soon following.
BB Creams are known as an all-in-one face cream and a great time-savem although they may not suit everyone. They always have sun protection, offer a tint of colour so they can replace foundation if you like a light coverage, with some offering a luminous finish. They often have anti-aging components and are thicker than standard face creams acting like a primer, hiding blemishes and smoothing the complexion.
Why I love using the Andalou Perfecting Beauty Balm
After a shower and a layer of face oil or serum, I use a little concealer under my eyes and then a small amount of this BB Balm. It has just the one skin colour tint but I use it all year round. Although it goes on thick and slightly oily, the initial pale colour soon sinks into the skin and seems to just adjust to your skin tone – or maybe it’s just the perfect colour for my skin!
It has an instant smoothing and brightening effect on my skin leaving me with a natural sheen that fives my skin a glow without feeling like a heavy coverage. I use this instead of foundation when working from home, exercising, going to the beach or relaxing on weekends. This BB Balm has a citrus smell that I love, and with all ingredients perfect for mature skin as well as sun protection and no nasties – its a great product to nourish the skin as you start the day.
I obviously love the Andalou Perfecting Beauty Balm and this review wasn’t about testing a new product but rather sharing a product I use religiously and want to tell you all about! Try it. I didn’t hop onto the BB trend early but once I did and tried this one there was no looking back!
Andalou Naturals do have a few other SPF BB and CC Balms. I tried the 1000 Roses Colour Correct Sheer Tint Balm which was lighter on my skin and I am not mad on the rose fragrance. They also have a Clear Skin Argan Stem Cell BB Untinted Balm which would be good for younger skin. I would like to try the Brightening Vitamin C BB Balm because my second favourite Andalou product (another one I can’t do without) is the Brightening Chia and Omega C Radiant Skin Polish – another review needed for this one!
My tube lasts me about 2 months. You really don’t need much – it spreads well. In fact, a few times I have squeezed too much out and not wanting to waste it it have attempted to use is all but I ended up looking ghost-like and had to remove some!
