Blog post regularity is not my strength at the moment and it has taken me over than a week to write this but I just had to dedicate a post to a movie I went to recently with a couple of friends are our 10 and 11 year old daughters.
EMBRACE The Movie is unique and a “must see” for all women!!
There are so many benefits to us all being so connected via the internet, and discovering gems like this is just one of them!! Word of mouth via social media is how I discovered Embrace and I knew it was a movie I should be taking my daughter to. Biggest problem was finding somewhere it was screening nearby!
So what is Embrace all about?
It’s a documentary by Taryn Brumfitt which follows her journey across the globe to talk to women about the body images and issues all nationalities and body shapes experience. Her message is that women are spending too much time trying to be a “perfect” that doesn’t exist.
Taryn is a wife and mother of three kids, and much of the issues she talks about I could relate to – as I am sure most women can! It made me think about how I view my body and how I talk to my kids about the body, diets, eating and expectations.
Most importantly, I was so pleased to have taken my daughter so her eyes are open to the body images she is already faced with and issues she will have to deal with all her life.
There was parts of the movie when I cringed and thought “is my daughter too young to see this” and then I thought “no” because she sees it all around her already. She is on the internet, watching movies, looking at social media and reading magazines. She needs to understand these messages that can play with her mind now, not later. It’s my generation that has experienced these unrealistic expectations since the 70’s and have questioned our body shapes ever since. I don’t want that for my daughter, my friends daughters and their friends….
I really hope that Taryn’s Body Image Movement takes off and starts to make a difference in our communities. Most importantly I feel it needs to get to the schools. It’s something that both boys and girls need to know about.
If you would like to see the movie they are getting into movie theatres across Australia and around the globe via special screenings. Check HERE to find a screening near you in Australia or HERE for the rest of the world.
You can also donate money to get the message to schools, buy a bracelet and t-shirt to wear proudly (I am definitely going to pop some into Xmas stockings), become an ambassador for the cause or just follow their social media and spread the word!!
I just shared this video with my Facebook friends and decided to get them thinking about their bodies in a positive way. Check it you and why not share too?
If you are wondering, my one word to describe my body is AMAZING ! …because of all it has achieved for me so far. Surviving birth, coping with being a teenager, living through my party years, giving birth to two children, allowing me to climb mountains and run a marathon – and who knows what else during my life!
Have you seen Embrace? I would love to know what your thoughts? And what’s you one word to describe your body?

What do you think?
